This is Sanju Samson's first India call-up for an ICC tournament. Samson's impressive form for the Rajasthan Royals, who are top of the table in the 2024 IPL with him as captain, seems to have helped his cause. However, he could be on the bench as a backup wicketkeeper for Pant during the tournament. (PTI)

Hardik Pandya has made it to the team despite the rather disastrous run of form he is suffering from in the 2024 IPL. He has struggled to be accepted by Mumbai Indians fans as the team's new captain and has looked a shadow of himself with both bat and ball. However, the fact that there is no like-for-like replacement for him and his performances before injury seems to have come into consideration. Pandya is vice-captain of the team. (AP)

Ravindra Jadeja has not been at his best with the bat in the 2024 IPL this season but, like Pandya, there really is no like-for-like replacement for him as he is a genuine batter and one of the best spinners in the world. In addition to this Jadeja is arguably the best fielder in the world. Jadeja missed out on the T20 World Cup last year and this will be his fifth appearance in the tournament, having made his first all the way back in 2009. (AP)

While he had been in the wilderness for a few years after the 2019 World Cup, Kuldeep Yadav is back to being a regular in the Indian limited overs squad and could even become one in red-ball cricket considering his stellar performances with ball and bat in the five-Test series against England earlier this year. He has played 35 T20Is and taken 59 wickets and yet, this will be his first appearance in the T20 World Cup, having been snubbed in 2021 and 2022. (REUTERS)

Yuzvendra Chahal had seemingly fallen out of contention for the Indian T20 World Cup team considering the fact that he was not picked for the squad that faced Afghanistan earlier this year. However, he has forced his way into the side through the sheer force of performances. This will be Chahal's second appearance in the T20 World Cup, having played in 2022. (BCCI)
