Netherlands Squad 2024: Fred Klaassen and Daniel Doram who were earlier part of the initial T20 World Cup 2024 squad of the Netherlands, have been left out. They have roped in the lone travelling reserve Kyle Klein into the squad along with Saqib Zulfiqar as replacements.
Doram was ruled out because of a broken hand while Klaassen started having trouble from a previous stress fracture of the lower back. Netherlands are preparing for the T20 World Cup with a tri-series against Ireland and Scotland. Doram played two matches in the series and returned figures of 2 for 35 and 2 for 27.
Zulfiqar, aged 27, has participated in six T20Is and 15 ODIs, claiming nine wickets with an economy rate of 6.46. Klein, a 22-year-old right-arm medium pacer, has only played one T20I and two ODIs so far. In his lone T20I against Nepal earlier this year, he bowled one over without taking any wickets and conceded five runs.
For the T20 World Cup 2024, the Netherlands squad sees Bas de Leede (Durham) released by his English county to join the team. However, experienced players Colin Ackermann (Durham) and Roelof van der Merwe (Somerset) remain with their counties and won't be participating in the T20 World Cup.
Zulfiqar, a leg-spinning allrounder, last played a T20I in 2019. The squad still includes left-arm spinner Tim Pringle. Among the notable absentees, Brandon Glover is not selected as he is still recovering from an injury and Timm van der Gugten is out due to a calf injury.
Scott Edwards will continue to captain the Netherlands squad in the T20 World Cup 2024, just as he did in the 2022 edition.
The Netherlands is placed in Group D of the T20 World Cup 2024, starting on June 2, alongside Bangladesh, Nepal, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Their first match is against Nepal on June 4 in Dallas.
