Two medals came for India on a rather historic Day 13. Neeraj Chopra's men's javelin final was one of the most awaited events of the Games for the country. Neeraj managed to throw well over the mark he achieved at the Tokyo Olympics but an Olympic record throw from Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem denied the Indian a second consecutive gold medal. Meanwhile, the Indian men's hockey team won a second consecutive Olympic medal for the first time since 1972.  (PTI) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout

Neeraj Chopra, who has been managing a groin injury started with a no-throw. He ended up being able to find just one legitimate throw. That was in his second attempt after his great rival and friend Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan registered an Olympic record throw of 92.97m. However, he couldn't improve on that. In his attempts at trying to throw over 90m for the first time in his career, Neeraj ended up fouling all of his remaining attempts. Nadeem, meanwhile, threw 91.79m for his final attempt, which was also more than the previous Olympic record throw of 90.57m. He became the first athlete from Pakistan to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics while Neeraj became the third Indian after PV Sindhu and Sushil Kumar to win consecutive Games medals. Grenada's Anderson Peters won bronze with a throw of 88.54m, making it the first time that there were no Europeans on the podium for men's javelin throw at the Olympics. (REUTERS) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout
