Vinesh Phogat was disqualified on Wednesday from the Olympics after being found 100gm overweight ahead of her women’s 50kg final in Paris. Vinesh was set to win at least a silver after having beaten some of the toughest opponents in the world on Day 1 of her wrestling bouts, including Japan's Yui Sasaki who had never lost a senior bout before that. However, news emerged in the early hours of Wednesday that Vinesh had missed her weight by 100gm. She and her team had gone to extreme measures to make sure that she loses the 2kg of extra weight that she had at the end of the first day, including cutting her hair and drawing out some of her blood. She was admitted to a hospital after fainting due to dehydration after failing to make weight. The only image that came of her all day long on Wednesday was of Vinesh meeting IOA president and sprint legend PT Usha on a hospital bed. (PTI)
